The Scout section took part in Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) over the weekend of 14th to 16th October 2016. Every one of our Scouts took part in the event. 17th Tynemouth organised our JOTI event for the whole of Tynemouth District. Almost all of the groups in Tynemouth participated.
More than 100 people came along to the Tynemouth District HQ to see what was going on. Contact was made with Scouts from all over the world using a variety of methods:
- Typing messages to Scouts on Scoutlink’s IRC system
- Chatting to Scouts across the world on Skype video. This included a singalong with an Italian group
- Playing on the Scoutlink Minecraft server (while it was available)
- Speaking to the world on JOTI Radio
Scouts were armed with a list of questions to ask, log sheets and their own personalities. Using these tools they managed to find out a great deal about Scouting globally.
Overall the Scouts spoke to a whopping 81 countries this year. This is the best we’ve ever managed for JOTI in Tynemouth. The map and list of the countries we spoke to are at the end of this post.
Next year’s JOTI will be 20th to 22nd October 2017. It seems that our Scouts want to take part again so we will see you there again next year!

Finally, a massive thank you to all who took part in the event, both from Tynemouth and across the world. Huge thanks also to the parents and leaders that helped out over the weekend.
